Small flowering vines curve across the cloth, scattered with flower heads, leaves and buds. Translated from an Indian cotton chintz of about 1750–1771, now in the Rijksmuseum. Available as wallpaper and fabric by the yard.

Flowering vines on a sage green ground, with deep blackcurrant leading the flower heads. The dark flowers sit firmly on the soft green, so the small pattern holds from a few steps back. Up close, each flower, leaf and bud is drawn with a fine outline and filled in flat colour.

  • Layout: Flowering stems curve across the whole repeat, with flower heads, leaves and buds scattered along them. No stripe, border or medallion. Adjacent lengths hang level.
  • Values: Seven flat printed colours: ground, an outline for linework and stems, and five fills for flower heads, leaves and centres. No gradients or shading.
  • Edge: Clean, with the slightly irregular contour of a brushed line. The staining and creasing of the original are not reproduced.

A short, dense pile with a velvet-like surface on a firm woven ground. Fine striations catch the light as it moves across the room, deepening the colour. Substantial weight keeps a clean line on upholstery and gives tailored drapery a decisive fall.

Cotton Linen
