About Us
Not a specific room. The idea of one.
The one that has been forming for years from things seen in passing — a wall in a hotel in Lisbon, a photograph kept too long, a corner at a dinner party where everything was finally, completely right.
That room has a surface with memory in it. Pattern that did not begin as décor. Something collected rather than matched, inhabited rather than staged.
That is what we make.
Every Vintage Botanica design is drawn from a documented object. A museum-held object. A named collector. An accession number you can look up.
The Poppy pattern: a late-17th-century Indian kalamkari floorspread. Metropolitan Museum of Art. Accession 1982.239a. Three centuries old, and the green still holds.
Every design in this collection passed the same test: Why did this survive? Who kept it? What does it change in a room?
The answer is always specific. The answer is always the point.
Each design is translated by hand — real artists, working color by color — into a palette of 21 colors. The collection is fixed because the source material doesn't change.
Printed to order. Water-based inks. No overstock.
I came to this from cybersecurity. A CISSP by training — which means I don't take provenance on faith. The habit that field drills into you is simple: find the primary source, then verify it holds. I did that here so you don't have to. For design, the primary sources are in museums.
A powder room guests remember. A dining room with more gravity after dark. A study that stops looking assembled and starts looking formed.
The proof is in the source. The effect is in the room.
If you want to know what that feels like — start with a swatch.
